Sydney Airport has named 18-year-old Angel Marino as the 2026 recipient of its Trevor Gerber SYD100 Scholarship, supporting her studies at the University of New South Wales School of Aviation.
The scholarship covers up to four years of tuition and provides up to $25,000 each year towards residential costs.
A pathway into aviation
Marino was born in the Philippines and moved to Australia with her family in 2015. Sydney Airport says her first flight to Australia helped spark her interest in aviation.
She is now studying Aviation Management at UNSW, a course that can lead into areas including airline, airport and aviation operations and management.
Behind the scenes at Sydney Airport
As part of the scholarship announcement, Marino and her parents joined a behind-the-scenes airfield tour at Sydney Airport.
The tour was hosted by former scholarship recipient Jessie Huynh, who now works in the airport’s operations team. That provides a direct example of the pathway the scholarship is intended to support, from aviation study into industry work.
About the SYD100 Scholarship
Sydney Airport created the scholarship in 2020 as part of its centenary program. It is named after former Sydney Airport chair Trevor Gerber.
The program is intended to help people from groups that have historically been under-represented in aviation gain access to education and build a pathway into the industry.
For Marino, the award provides both financial support for university and a closer connection with the airport and aviation sector while she studies.
