Ramsgate residents will have a chance to hear about a proposal to change the status of council-owned land on Rocky Point Road at a public hearing on Thursday 29 October. The hearing forms part of a wider planning proposal for a mixed-use development in the area.
What is being considered?
The planning proposal covers land at 193 and 197–199 Rocky Point Road, 66–68 Ramsgate Road and 2–4 Targo Road. It seeks changes to the Georges River Local Environmental Plan to allow a mixed-use project involving a supermarket and apartments.
One part of the proposal would reclassify council-owned land at 197R Rocky Point Road from community land to operational land. That change would affect how the land could be held and managed in future. The public hearing is specifically about the proposed reclassification.
The wider planning proposal was on public exhibition from 31 August to 28 September 2026. The public hearing is a separate step following that exhibition. It does not mean the proposed development has been approved.
When and where is the hearing?
The Sydney South Planning Panel has arranged an independent chair to conduct the hearing on Thursday 29 October, from 3pm to 7pm.
It will be held in the Grange room at St George Leagues Club, 124 Princes Highway, Kogarah.
People who live, shop or travel through Ramsgate may be interested because the proposal concerns land near a local commercial area and could affect its future use.
