Construction on a shared walking and cycling path upgrade along Wentworth Avenue and Page Street in Pagewood is scheduled to begin in mid to late September.
The project will widen sections of the existing shared path, improve pedestrian and cyclist crossings and traffic signals, resurface affected driveway areas and include landscaping and pavement restoration.
Bayside Council says the work is expected to continue until late December, depending on weather and site conditions.
Residents and road users may notice temporary changes to walking and cycling access, lane adjustments, parking restrictions and occasional driveway access limits while work is underway. Construction noise is also expected during approved working hours.
Council says affected residents and businesses will receive advance notice of significant changes to access arrangements.
The NSW Government has provided $1.57 million towards the project through the Get NSW Active program. The upgrade is intended to improve safety and make the route easier to use for people walking and riding.
The path is already used by local families and school students. Council says the work will strengthen the active transport connection between Mascot, Eastgardens and Hillsdale, including access around Pagewood Public School.
The project follows earlier community consultation and planning for the Wentworth Avenue and Page Street route. The current construction stage is focused on delivering the physical path and intersection improvements.
Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians travelling through the area should watch for temporary traffic controls and changed access while crews are working. The project timetable may change if weather or site conditions delay construction.
