The upgraded L’Estrange Park playspace in Mascot is now open, with new equipment for younger children, renewed surfaces and accessibility improvements designed to make the playground easier for local families to use.
Bayside Council held the official opening on Friday 4 September after completing the renewal of the King Street and Sutherland Street playspace.
What changed at the playground
The project added new play equipment aimed particularly at children aged two to six, responding to community feedback asking for more facilities for younger children.
Works included a renewed soft-fall surface, replacement swing seats and ropes, and new equipment in areas that previously contained water play and a sandpit.
Selected seating was repositioned to improve sightlines for parents and carers, while some park furniture was renewed to improve accessibility and inclusivity. Existing trees were retained to preserve shade.
Investment in the local park
Council records show the playground renewal involved substantial public investment. The project combined Council funding with NSW Government support for improvements to the Mascot playspace.
The upgrade focused on improving safety, play value and access while retaining usable existing equipment and the established trees around the playground.
The playground is now available to families
The original Bayside News story was published around the opening event. With that event now finished, the lasting local information is that the renewed playground is open for everyday use.
L’Estrange Park is in Mascot, with the playground near King Street and Sutherland Street. Families can now use the upgraded facility without waiting for a future opening event.
