Free spring school holiday activities return to six Bayside libraries

Primary school children can join free science, coding, LEGO and craft sessions across Bayside during the September and October holidays.

Families looking for low-cost ways to keep children busy during the spring school holidays can book free activities at six Bayside libraries from Monday 28 September to Friday 9 October.

The program is aimed mainly at primary school-aged children and includes science, coding, LEGO, games, craft activities and film screenings. Activities will run at Arncliffe, Bexley North, Eastgardens, Mascot, Rockdale and Sans Souci libraries.

What children can do

Activities vary by branch and age group. The program includes Spaceships & Satellites, Body Investigators, Scratch coding through Code Club, Young Scientists workshops, LEGO, board games and hands-on craft sessions.

Eastgardens has one of the larger programs, including STEM activities, science workshops and a screening of Turtle Odyssey. Rockdale’s program includes Code Club, science activities and a film screening, while Mascot, Arncliffe, Bexley North and Sans Souci will run a mix of games, LEGO and creative workshops.

Check the age range before booking

Most activities are for children aged six to 11, but some sessions have different age ranges. Body Investigators is aimed at children aged three to eight, while Rockdale’s Code Club is for ages eight to 12 and Mascot’s Board Game Bonanza is for ages seven to 12.

Bayside Libraries advises that bookings are required for its school-aged children’s activities. Families should check the individual session before reserving a place because times, ages and availability differ between branches.

Activities across Bayside

The six participating branches give families options on both sides of the Bayside local government area rather than concentrating the holiday program in one location.

The program runs across the two-week school holiday period, with sessions spread from Monday 28 September through Friday 9 October. Families can view the full timetable and reserve places through Bayside Council’s Spring School Holiday Program information.
