Free Greek-language technology classes start at Rockdale Library in November

Four free Monday sessions will help Greek-speaking seniors learn computers, cyber safety, video calls and smartphones.

Greek-speaking seniors in Bayside can book free, beginner-friendly technology classes at Rockdale Library throughout November. The four Monday morning sessions cover everyday digital skills, from using a computer to recognising online risks and keeping in touch by video call.

What is being taught?

The Tech Savvy Seniors program is designed for older people who want to feel more confident using devices and the internet. Bayside Libraries will deliver the sessions in Greek, so participants can learn and ask questions in a language they are comfortable using.

Each class runs from 9.30am to 11.30am at Rockdale Library, 444–446 Princes Highway, Rockdale.

  • Monday 2 November: Introduction to Computers.
  • Monday 9 November: Introduction to Cyber Safety.
  • Monday 16 November: Introduction to Video Calling.
  • Monday 23 November: Introduction to Smartphones.

Why these skills matter

Knowing how to use a phone or computer can make everyday tasks easier. Video calls can help people stay in touch with relatives and friends, while cyber safety lessons offer a chance to learn about online risks before using unfamiliar services.

The classes also give people who are new to digital technology a local place to build their skills. Participants can choose the topics that are most useful to them, rather than having to learn everything at once.

How to book

All four classes are free, but bookings are essential and places are limited. Bayside Council says participants must be Bayside Library members. The Council’s event page has a separate booking link for each date, so readers can check the session they want before travelling.

The program is being held by Bayside Libraries in partnership with the NSW Government and Telstra. It starts on 2 November, so anyone interested should check the booking links ahead of the first class.
