Extra patrols and cleaning planned for Bayside foreshore this summer

Council, NSW Police and maritime officers are preparing for heavier summer crowds around Botany Bay and Bayside’s beaches.

Bayside Council is preparing for heavier summer crowds with increased patrols, cleaning and safety activity along the local foreshore.

The Summer Foreshore Program brings Council together with NSW Police and Transport for NSW Maritime to coordinate public safety, community education, environmental protection and recreational activity around Bayside’s beaches and Botany Bay.

Council says joint Council and Police patrols will operate across key foreshore locations, with a focus on community safety, education and compliance in designated smoke-free areas.

Transport for NSW Maritime officers are also expected to increase boating-safety education and patrols throughout Botany Bay as recreational use of the water rises during the warmer months.

On land, Council plans increased cleaning services to help manage the larger number of visitors. It will also continue its Smoke Free – Breathe Easy initiative, including an audit and upgrade of smoke-free signage across the municipality ahead of summer.

The foreshore becomes one of Bayside’s busiest public spaces during warm weather, particularly around popular beaches, parks, walking paths and boating areas. The coordinated program is intended to make the increased seasonal use easier to manage while protecting the local environment.

Residents and visitors can therefore expect a more visible safety, cleaning and education presence around the foreshore this summer. Boaters should also expect increased maritime safety activity on Botany Bay.

Council says the broader summer program will include community and recreational activities as well as the additional operational measures.
