Christina Curry elected Mayor of Bayside Council

Councillors elected Christina Curry as Mayor for the next two years, with Scott Morrissey returning as Deputy Mayor until September 2027.

Christina Curry has been elected Mayor of Bayside Council for the next two years after a vote by councillors at an Extraordinary Council Meeting on Wednesday 30 September.

Scott Morrissey was elected Deputy Mayor and will serve in the role until September 2027.

Cr Curry represents Ward 1 and has served on Bayside Council since it was established in 2017. She previously served on the former City of Botany Bay Council.

This is not her first term as Mayor. Cr Curry became Bayside’s first female Mayor when she was elected to the position in 2022.

Cr Morrissey has also served on Bayside Council since 2017 and previously held the Deputy Mayor position in 2022.

The leadership change follows the terms of outgoing Mayor Edward McDougall and Deputy Mayor Heidi Lee Douglas. Bayside Council says Cr Curry will serve as Mayor for the next two years, while Cr Morrissey’s Deputy Mayor term runs until September 2027.

In a statement published by Council, Cr Curry thanked her fellow councillors for their confidence and said her focus would include the presentation of Bayside’s parks, playgrounds, sporting facilities, town centres and public spaces, as well as Council’s delivery of its Community Strategic Plan and Delivery Program.

The Mayor chairs Council meetings and represents the Council at official functions, while councillors collectively make decisions on local services, planning, infrastructure and other Council matters.
