Updated 27 October 2026: The NSW Government has cancelled the proposed 15 November train timetable changes. This article originally reported the planned service increases. Those changes will not proceed.
Passengers using Arncliffe, Banksia, Rockdale, Kogarah and Wolli Creek stations will continue with the existing train timetable after the NSW Government withdrew its planned overhaul of the T4, T8 and South Coast lines.
The government confirmed the decision in a statement dated 26 October, following concerns raised by commuters, local communities and MPs. Transport for NSW has also confirmed that the proposed changes to journey times, departure platforms and train schedules will not take effect on 15 November.
Which changes have been cancelled?
The withdrawn plan had promised peak T4 trains every 7.5 minutes on average at Arncliffe, Banksia, Rockdale and Kogarah. It also proposed T8 trains every four minutes on average between Green Square and Wolli Creek during peak periods.
Other changes would have altered stopping patterns and connections, including how some passengers reached Sydenham, St Peters, Erskineville, Redfern and Sydney Airport. These proposed changes are not going ahead.
For Bayside commuters, that means the extra services previously announced are not starting next month. It also means passengers do not need to change their usual route because of this cancelled timetable. Normal service disruptions and planned trackwork can still affect individual trips.
Why did the government reverse its decision?
The original proposal was intended to increase frequency and separate some T4 and South Coast services to reduce rail congestion. However, concerns emerged about longer journeys and more complicated connections for some passengers.
The NSW Government says it will now focus on reliability before attempting major timetable changes. It points to a $2.1 billion investment in rail maintenance and incident response, although that funding does not mean individual services will immediately become more reliable.
Transport for NSW says it will continue working with communities on possible future improvements. No replacement start date has been announced for the withdrawn changes.
What should Bayside passengers do?
Keep using the current timetable for regular T4 and T8 trips. If you had already planned a new commute around the proposed 15 November services, check your route again. The advertised increases in frequency will not be available on that date.

The decision was confirmed in the NSW Government’s 26 October announcement. Bayside News has updated its earlier report so readers are not left relying on a timetable that has been cancelled.
