Bayside drivers can now claim rebates under the $50 toll cap

Eligible local drivers can claim back qualifying personal toll costs for trips between 6 July and 4 October.

Bayside motorists who use Sydney’s toll roads for personal trips can now check whether they are owed money under the NSW Government’s reduced $50 weekly toll cap. Claims are open for eligible travel between 6 July and 4 October 2026.

The cap fell from $60 to $50 on 6 July for a 12-month period. It applies to eligible personal toll spending, including journeys on NSW toll roads used by drivers travelling between Bayside and other parts of Sydney. It is a rebate scheme, so motorists still pay their tolls as usual and claim back qualifying spending afterwards.

Who can claim?

To qualify, a driver generally needs to live in NSW, be at least 16, have an active personal toll account linked to MyServiceNSW, and spend more than $50 on eligible toll trips in a week. The vehicle must be registered in NSW for private use and charged as a Class A vehicle.

The rebate covers eligible spending above $50 and up to $400 per week for each qualifying toll tag or number plate, with a maximum rebate of $350 per week and $5,000 per customer each year.

Business travel, employer-reimbursed trips, rideshare and delivery work, trucks and vehicles registered for business use are excluded. Drivers also cannot claim M5 South-West tolls through this scheme if they claim those trips under the separate M5 South-West Cashback Scheme. The rules are detailed on the official Service NSW page.

How to claim your toll rebate

First, check your toll provider’s account details and make sure your vehicle information is current. Then link your personal toll account to your MyServiceNSW account. Once linked, you can view your eligible spending using Toll Tracker and submit an online claim through Service NSW’s toll relief page.

The claim window for travel from 6 July to 4 October opened on 11 October 2026 and is due to close on 31 December 2027. Claims for the next three-month period, covering 5 October 2026 to 3 January 2027, are scheduled to open on 11 January 2027.

Service NSW says approved rebates are usually paid within 10 to 15 business days. Drivers who are unsure whether a trip or vehicle qualifies should check the eligibility rules before claiming, rather than assume every toll is covered.

Why it matters in Bayside

For residents who regularly use toll roads to reach work, family or appointments, the change could reduce weekly travel costs. The exact saving depends on each driver’s eligible toll spending. The NSW Government estimates that motorists who previously claimed at the $60 cap every week could receive an extra $520 over a full year under the lower threshold.
