Bayside kids get new nature and sustainability learning program

Schools, early learning services and families will gain access to Get Grubby resources for children aged 3 to 10 through October 2027.

Young children across Bayside will get new ways to learn about nature and sustainability through a Council partnership with the Get Grubby Program.

The program is aimed at children aged 3 to 10 and will provide resources for local early learning services, primary schools, educators, parents and carers.

The partnership is due to launch at Project Planet on 17 October and continue through to October 2027.

Get Grubby uses play, music, stories, videos and hands-on activities to introduce children to nature and everyday environmental habits. Its characters include dirtgirl, scrapboy and Costa the Garden Gnome.

Resources available through the program include themed learning units, videos, printable activity kits, posters, certificates, educator guides and music. Council says the material is aligned with curriculum learning and designed so families and educators can use it in different settings.

The launch will form part of the Project Planet event, where Costa the Garden Gnome is scheduled to appear.

For Bayside families, the longer-term part of the program is the access to activities and learning material beyond the launch day. Council says activities and promotions linked to the partnership will continue for a year.

For schools and early learning services, Bayside Council says educators can request access to the online Get Grubby learning portal by emailing sustainablewaste@bayside.nsw.gov.au. Once registered, educators receive access to the program’s online resources. Families can read more on Council’s Get Grubby program page.

The launch is scheduled for Saturday 17 October at Project Planet, held from 10am to 4pm at Cahill Park, Wolli Creek. Council says the partnership will continue until October 2027, so the education resources are not limited to the launch event.
