New Bayside hub tracks major developments open for feedback

Residents will be able to find State Significant Developments on public exhibition and follow links to lodge submissions with the NSW Government.

Bayside residents will have a new place to check major development proposals open for public feedback, with Council launching an online hub for State Significant Developments across the local area.

The hub will list current State Significant Developments, known as SSDs, that are on public exhibition and link residents to project information and the NSW Government process for making a submission.

SSDs are large or high-impact projects that are assessed by the NSW Government rather than determined by the local council. That can include major development proposals with wider economic, environmental or community effects.

For residents, the new hub is intended to make it easier to see which major proposals are currently seeking feedback without having to search across separate planning pages.

Public submissions on SSD applications must still go to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. Bayside Council can provide advice about local planning, infrastructure and community impacts, but it cannot accept those submissions or decide the application.

During a public exhibition, residents can review the proposal and supporting documents before sending feedback through the NSW Government planning process. Exhibition deadlines vary by project, so anyone interested in a proposal should check its closing date.

Council says the hub will bring links to current Bayside SSD projects and submission pages together in one place. The final decision on an SSD is made through the NSW planning system by the Planning Minister or a delegate, depending on the application.

The new hub is aimed at giving residents an easier way to keep track of large developments that may affect their suburb, local roads, services or surrounding community.
