Bayside seeks feedback on jet ski safety in Botany Bay

Community feedback will help shape Council advocacy on exclusion zones and other measures for personal watercraft use around Botany Bay.

Bayside residents and people who use Botany Bay are being asked for their views on jet ski safety, environmental impacts and possible changes to how personal watercraft are managed.

Bayside Council has opened community consultation as it considers what measures it should advocate for with the NSW Government. Personal watercraft, commonly called jet skis, are regulated at state level.

Council says it wants to better understand community experiences, priorities and areas of concern around jet ski use across Botany Bay.

Feedback could help inform future advocacy on measures including changes to exclusion zones and other approaches intended to support safer and more respectful use of the waterway.

No new restriction has been announced. The current process is a consultation, so any future proposal would depend on the feedback received and decisions involving the relevant NSW Government authorities.

The consultation opened on 10 September 2026 and will remain open until Wednesday 31 March 2027, giving residents and bay users several months to have their say.

The issue is relevant across Bayside’s foreshore communities because Botany Bay is heavily used for swimming, boating, fishing and other recreation, particularly during the warmer months.
