People walking across Princes Highway at Wolli Creek could see new safety measures if Bayside Council’s latest request to the NSW Government leads to action.
Council decided on 26 August 2026 to press Transport for NSW to complete its traffic and pedestrian safety review and work with Council on improvements along the busy state road.
What Council wants reviewed
- Stronger pedestrian fencing, railings and protective bollards.
- Better ways to guide people through crossing areas.
- Traffic signal timing and pedestrian crossing times.
- Vehicle turning and traffic queues at Princes Highway and Brodie Sparks Drive.
- Road signs, markings, lighting and other traffic-calming measures.
Residents regularly cross Princes Highway to reach public transport, parks, shops and homes, making the safety of the crossings important to everyday movement around Wolli Creek.
Why the State Government is involved
Princes Highway is a state road, so major changes require Transport for NSW involvement rather than being something Bayside Council can implement alone.
Council plans to write to the NSW Minister for Roads, the Minister for Transport and Transport for NSW seeking a clear timeframe for the review and information about when immediate safety measures could be introduced.
What happens next
The Council decision follows continuing local concern about pedestrian safety along this part of the highway. The next substantive step is a response from Transport for NSW and the State Government.
No construction timetable has been announced. Bayside News will treat any later commitment, design or works program as a new development rather than implying the requested measures have already been approved.
