Introducing Bayside News: Local News Built Around Our Community

A new independent local publication bringing together useful Bayside news, community stories, Your Stars and more ways for locals to take part.

Bayside News is a new independent local publication for people who live, work, study and spend time across Sydney’s Bayside communities.

Our aim is simple. We want to bring you useful local news, stories and information about the people and places that make Bayside our community.

That means covering local changes, community news, development, transport, public safety, opportunities and the everyday issues that affect people across Bayside.

But we want Bayside News to become more than a place to read the news.

Local news works best when local people are part of it. Bayside News will make it easy to send us a news tip, photo, video, community notice or link to something you think deserves attention.

You might notice something happening down the road. Your sporting club might have achieved something special. A neighbour might be doing something wonderful. Or there might be an issue affecting your suburb that deserves a closer look.

Submissions will be checked before anything is published. We want community participation while keeping accuracy, privacy and trust at the centre of the site.

Bayside Stories will give local people somewhere to share real experiences. They might be funny, moving, strange or inspiring. They could be about an unexpected friendship, an act of kindness, a mistake that taught you something, starting again, a strange coincidence or simply something life taught you.

You will not normally need your full name published either. Something as simple as a first name, nickname or alias and suburb can be enough. The idea is to help people understand each other a little better.

We are also creating something a little different. Your Stars will be a daily feature built around astrology, reflection, perspective and a little humour.

We are not interested in frightening predictions or pretending we know exactly what tomorrow holds. Instead, Your Stars might give you a reason to call someone you have been thinking about, take five slow breaths, forgive yourself for an old mistake, play a song you love, trust your gut or stop giving so much energy to something that probably will not matter in five years.

Sometimes you might simply get a laugh. If it is your birthday, we are planning something special for you too.

The bigger idea is to plant small positive seeds. If one little thought helps somebody have a better day, that is worthwhile.

We also want to recognise the people who make our community better. They do not need to be famous. They could be a young achiever, volunteer, coach, artist, sporting talent, community worker, business owner, neighbour or someone quietly helping other people.

There will be plenty more to come. We will build suburb news hubs so you can find stories closer to home. We will make it easier to discover community events and opportunities. And we will connect readers with local businesses and offers through Bayside Deals.

Most importantly, we will keep asking one question when we create something: how does this help the reader?

Our goal is not simply to fill a website with articles. It is to build something useful for Bayside, and we would like the community to help us build it.
